Pieces of Me

When I make my art I put lots of pieces together. I can take paper and glue to make a collage. I can take snapshots of nature, put it together with text to build a new photo that inspires a haiku and as a person, I can find pieces of my life, my family and my history, and put it together to create a definition of who I am, where I came from.

My mixed media art is inspired by everything I see. I can look at a button, some ribbon and some paint and my mind creates original art. My mobile photography gets inspiration from our natural world. I go on a photo safari and collect vistas, photo evidence of where I’ve been. I take those photos and pick the best shot; it always inspires a haiku. The picture and the haiku meet to create original art. My genealogy research gets its inspiration from history. I take pieces of history, collecting facts and exciting people who all come together to shape me.

The title for my blog comes from a song, published back in 1972 by a favorite rock group Three Dog Night called "Pieces of April." I was born in April, so it feels appropriate to paraphrase these lyrics:

I’ve got pieces of April, I keep them in a memory bouquet;
I’ve got pieces of April, but it’s a morning today.
